The settlement, which was first announced in 2017, aims to provide financial compensation to veterans and their families who were stationed at Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1987 and were exposed to toxic chemicals in the drinking water. The cash advance and payouts are a result of a class-action lawsuit against the U.S. government for failing to protect the health and well-being of the veterans and their families.
According to the Veterans Health Services Center, the cash advance and payouts will be distributed to eligible veterans and their families based on the level of exposure and resulting health conditions. This includes compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
